Randall Pool, M. Ed., Registered Psychologist
I have worked in the field of education for more than 25 years. The first part of my career was spent as a teacher working primarily with children with special needs, many of whom experienced behavioural and learning challenges. For the past 15 years, I have worked as a school psychologist, counsellor, and consultant, supporting teachers and parents in meeting the needs of children with complex profiles. Throughout my career, I have gained extensive experience working with students who require additional behavioural, emotional, and academic support.
I believe that all children can succeed when they are in the right environment and provided with effective, individualized interventions. Identifying what works best for each child—and what motivates them—can sometimes be a challenge. That process involves collaboration with parents, teachers, and the child to develop meaningful and practical solutions. Through comprehensive assessment and consultation, we can work together to support your child and help them grow in confidence and success.
I am able to administer standardized psychological assessments and offer evidence-based recommendations and interventions tailored to your child’s needs. I also provide guidance for parents who are managing challenging behaviours often associated with ADHD, ODD, Autism, Anxiety, Depression, and other mental-health or neurodevelopmental concerns.

A psycho-educational assessment is administered to help understand your child’s strengths and weaknesses in terms of their cognitive and academic abilities. In addition, practical recommendations are provided for educational programming. An assessment typically involves intellectual (IQ) and academic testing. As well, questionnaires can be completed by parents and teachers to determine your child’s emotional and behavioural functioning.
The cost is dependant on the tests involved as well as the time that it takes. Our fees are set in accordance with the Psychology Association of Alberta guidelines. A more accurate estimate can be provided when you call to book the assessment. Most insurance providers will cover some psychological services. Call your insurance provider to see your available coverage.
Typically, this will take anywhere between 2 to 6 hours depending on the tests administered. Depending on your child, breaks will often be given throughout to ensure your child remains alert and attentive, and is able to work to his or her best potential.
Any types of assessments done in the past by previous psychologists, medical notes from pediatricians, and assessments administered by speech/language pathologists or occupational therapists can be helpful. As well, past report cards from school can provide valuable information.
Once the assessment is finished a report will be written that explains the test scores and provides recommendations to support your child. This report is yours to share with whomever you would like, such as your child’s teacher or pediatrician.
